Coconut Kefir Berry Smoothie

As the weather warms up many of us struggle with allergies. It leaves us with itchy eyes, runny noses and feeling full run down. What most don’t know is that allergies can be helped by improving our gut health! And luckily for us that often means we get to eat some really delicious things.

Many of us just aren’t eating and enjoying enough funky fermented things in our lives. It can sometimes feel intimidating to try something that has an interesting funk to it, so let’s start off slow and give coconut kefir a try.

Now, you can definitely do this with plain old dairy kefir, but in the interest of keeping things as allergy friendly as possible and to lower the potential of triggering a dairy sensitivity, we’re going to use a vegan option in this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut kefir

  • 1/2 banana

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries

  • 1 tbsp sunflower seed butter

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)

Directions

  1. Place everything in the blender and blend until smooth and liquidy. Enjoy immediately.

Notes:

  • No protein powder: use 2 tbsp of hemp seeds instead.
